About ISBP
A discipline earns its own society when the work demands it.
The International Society of Breast Pathology brings together pathologists who have made breast disease their focus — building the shared standards, training, and recognition the field needs to keep advancing.
§ Mission
Why ISBP exists
Breast pathology sits at the intersection of high diagnostic stakes and constant subtlety — the difference between benign and atypical, in situ and invasive, often comes down to a careful, well-trained eye. ISBP exists to support that eye: to give breast pathologists a professional home built specifically around their discipline, rather than folded into general surgical pathology.
We do that through four commitments that shape everything the society runs: facilitating collaboration between members on real, difficult cases; giving members standing access to a shared case archive and directory; acknowledging breast pathology as its own complex area worthy of dedicated fellowship training; and recognizing trainees doing outstanding scientific work at national meetings.
Who we serve
Our membership spans academic and community-based breast pathologists, fellows in training, and researchers whose work touches breast disease. Whatever the setting, the throughline is the same: a commitment to getting the diagnosis right, and to helping the next pathologist do the same.
Society leadership
ISBP is governed by an elected board of practicing breast pathologists.
